Dang, Google voice doesn't like my shiny new 403-879-XXXX number. Says "Country of the forwarding phone does not match your country." Not sure what I can do now other than try to get a different Calgary number.

403 is no longer working with google voice! if you were lucky enough to validate in the system, it stil holds and works but new accounts cannot be added!!!

As content becomes more and more enriched and complex, of course our per capita gb will go up. It only makes sense to embrace this trend instead of continually trying to label and punish so called leeches. If someone is bogging your network down, your network isn't configured properly, and you need to fix it.

The CRTC will place certain restrictions on telecom operators, some of which Skype seems unwilling to comply with.

If Skype is a telecom company and offers phone numbers, the understanding at the time is that it would have to offer 911 services, so the two are directly linked.

And to offer 911 service, Skype definitely does need to know your physical location. 911 calls are routed to a 911 switching centre which then re-routes your call to the nearest emergency services dispatching centre. If you call 911 in Winnipeg, you'll get the Winnipeg emergency dispatch centre. You get routed to the Winnipeg centre because the 911 routing centre knows you are in Winnipeg and directs the call to the dispatch centre nearest to you.

With VoIP, your IP address alone isn't enough to identify your location. There was a case a few years ago where a person had a VoIP landline in Ontario, and then moved the service (and billing address) to another province. They didn't update their 911 info in the file, so when they called 911, a dispatch centre in Ontario took the call, routed the ambulance to the wrong address, and it took 20+ minutes to figure out the mistake. Skype probably doesn't want this liability. Home VoIP providers are okay with it because home phone lines typically don't move much, unlike mobile phones.

The Skype filing to the FCC is somewhat relevant in that Industry Canada
and the CRTC often mirror the FCC, and submissions from companies to the
FCC are similar to those in Canada.

This article isn't right. For instance, it says that the CRTC won't allow Skype to offer SkypeIn Canadian numbers; of course, Skype is free to do so whenever it wants. It also says that Skype must offer 911 service in Canada, except that that really doesn't have anything to do with whether Skype offers SkypeIn with Canadian phone numbers. It also says that, to offer 911 Skype has to know where its users are, which isn't correct; and it reproduces a Skype filing to the U.S. FCC, which is a bit irrelevant.

i was thinking of switching from rogers to wind because of rogers customer service people keep lieing to me when i call and ask them why i cant send text messages and to find out they have been messing with my account. But a couple of people have been telling me not to swtich to wind because its a bad phone company and people have had so many problems with them and there service sucks apparently is that true and is it worth me switching from rogers to wind help please

I have a sim and I have a plan that can add the 10 dollar share my daughter has the iphone I want to do this with but I couldnt add it to my bell account no how her phone is at baseband 6.15, is there a way I could use my wifes rogers iphone to add the data only onto then just send it to her.. I have the sim adapter

unlock and use virgin it just as good as bell and the cards come activated so its plug in and play. I got it to work in my phone as i was exiting the store. The iphone 4 needs a micro sim so its best to use ipad sims.

Hey, I'm planning a visit to Vancouver, BC next week. I wonder if Bell's data only iPad SIM still works with an iPhone 4? On Bell's web site they claim it won't work on another device than the iPad. Any updated information? Thanks in advance.

I live in Canada and have a 917 # (New York) through google voice. I moved from the 905 area to the 613 area (near Ottawa) and google voice will not allow me to change my number in my settings to receive calls. Does anyone have any suggestions

We are all sick of the CRTC giving favoritism when they are funded by the taxpayer. Further, they support Socialist/Communist outlooks instead of what is good for the country.
The CRTC is another monopoly that should be disbanded in Canada.
